Why indeed? Nietzche described lies to ourselves as [the most common], and Eric Hoffer called them the [loudest lies], but as usual Bill gets to the heart of the matter.

Perhaps because we is our own enemy. Perhaps because it's better not to tell the truth, even to ourselves, about Secrets Man Was Not Meant To Know. Perhaps it's for our own good and we'll thank ourselves for it someday.
