Art of Seduction

The origin of the word seduction is from the Latin "to lead astray." But to "lead astray" implies that there is a straight path from which one is lead astray. Well this straight path is what our culture tries to make us follow—work, responsibility, obeying rules and laws. But our thoughts are easily lead astray, irresistibly drawn to things that are forbidden. This is my discovery: the essence of all seductions, the seed from which they spring is our uncontrollable curiosity for what is forbidden, a secret taste for the shadow side of civilization.

-- Robert Greene, describing his "epiphany" during the writing of Art of Seduction.
