A wiki for public email
Is a wiki a good implementaion of Public Email?
It seems to me that it's distinctly possible that the collaborative editing features of the wiki can avoid the "infintely-long email thread" problem, while the history mechanism means that the complete "who said what when" trail can be constructed if it's really necessary. Also, linking (rather than attaching or massively quoting) seems like it will help keep things manageable -- and refactoring will make it easier to break key items out of threads to be reused in other ways.
Caveat: I'm assuming some equivalent of RSS for wikis to deal with the Push or Pull issue -- the FlexWiki implementation I use at work has "Subscriptions", but I don't know what the MediaWiki implementation is. [The watch list approximates this.]
Is there any existing work in this area -- and is anybody else thinking along similar lines?
